Alexius Carter - ESE Coordinator

Alexius Carter - ESE Coordinator

My name is Alexius Carter. I grew up in a very small town called Camilla, Georgia. I left Camilla to attend Columbus State University, where I received my Bachelors in Health Science, with hopes of eventually becoming a Pediatrician, but that quickly changed. After receiving my Bachelors, I was anxious to work, and submitted applications to any and every job to get experience with kids; I received a job offer to work at an ABA Clinic as a Registered Behavior Therapist (RBT). After working there for a few months, I fell in love with the process of helping kids progress academically, socially, physically and emotionally. I received all the things needed to sit for my RBT exam and received my RBT credentials. I continued working as an RBT and during that time, I received my first Special Education Teaching Position at an Elementary School in Columbus, Georgia, where I absolutely loved it. After almost 4 years of living in Columbus, I decided to relocate to Tallahassee FL in 2021, where I then buckled down and completed my Masters Program, receiving my Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education from Liberty University. I am certified to teach grades K-12 Exceptional Student Education.

I am excited to be a part of Tallahassee Classical School, helping out as an ESE Coordinator and helping each student meet every goal needed!

I enjoy being with my family and friends, traveling, listening to music, karaoke, game nights, and sleeping (:

Valeria Wilson Ortiz - ESE & 504 Coordinator

Valeria Wilson Ortiz - ESE & 504 Coordinator

Valeria Wilson-Ortiz was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1996. She and her family moved to South Florida when she was 4 years old and spoke no English. She was raised in Pembroke Pines, FL and eventually graduated from West Broward High School in 2015. She then moved to Orlando, FL for college in where she attended the University of Central Florida (Go Knights! Charge On!), met her husband Joshua Ungos in 2016, and had their little girl, Charlotte in 2018. There she changed her major 4 times before she finally realized her calling was to be a teacher. Valeria graduated virtually (Thanks Covid!!) with a B.S. in Elementary Education in May 2020 and is state certified in Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education with endorsements in Reading and ESOL. After graduating, she and her little family took a leap and moved to Tallahassee, FL, so she could be a 4th grade teacher for Tallahassee Classical School's first school year, 2020-2021. She loved her inaugural class and they will always hold a special place in her heart! For the following school year 2021-2022, she was asked to join the ESE team as an ESE Teacher and the interventions team as the Intensive Reading teacher for 6th-8th grade. In February of 2022, Valeria became the ESE and 504 Coordinator. This same school year, she learned she was expecting another sweet addition to her family, a baby boy, due in late August or early September of 2022. Valeria is looking forward to another school year where she can continue to serve and advocate for our students here at Tallahassee Classical School!

Likes: Randomly breaking out in song, gardening, attending her students' extra curricular activities, watching movies, eating food, going to the beach, making lists, and spending time with her family
Dislikes: Tomatoes, people who don't use their turn signal, interrupting while she's in the middle of singing a song, gestational diabetes, and cockroaches
